Fluoxetine is highly used for the treatment of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and various other disorders. It is available both in the form of fluoxetine pills and fluoxetine tablets and is in general a psychotropic drug meant for oral administration. In general, it is taken once or twice a day. To get the best result make it a regular habit to take it at the same time. Even if you miss do not take two tablets at the same time, skip the missed dose and follow the discipline. If you miss the dose, and remember on the same day take it at once. But if this continues even for the next day, do no take it and go to the regular prescription. Never take two doses at the same time. Keep it in mind that it is not before four weeks when you can start to feel any relief from the depression, but the drug's effects should continue for about nine months even after the three-month regimen. For obsessive-compulsive disorder, the full effect may take five weeks to appear. Never go against the doctor's advice or prescription regarding its use. If you are not advised to have fluoxetine at the time of recovering from a heart attack or having any liver disease or diabetes never use it, since it causes drowsy or less alert and may affect your judgment. Any job that requires great mental attention like driving or operating dangerous machinery may be quite dangerous during this time. Again if there is the development of any skin rash or hive while taking fluoxetine, discontinue and consult with the doctor. If you become pregnant inform the doctor immediately since this medication appears in breast milk, making it dangerous for the infants. Lastly, if there is any side effect like abnormal dreams or ejaculation inform the doctor at the earliest.
