Nexium is used in general for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is a special condition stating the backward flow of acid from the stomach causing heartburn and injury of the esophagus (food pipe between the mouth and stomach). It is also used in other medications for the prevention of stomach ulcers and is in the class of medications called proton pump inhibitors, working through decreasing the amount of acid in the stomach. Both nexium pills and nexium tablets are delayed-release capsules to be taken orally.

Take one a day and at least one hour before the meal. If you miss any dose, take as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose skip the missed one for not disturbing the schedule but do not indulge in taking a double dose unless advised by the doctor. How can you have it? Swallow the capsules whole; do not split, chew, or crush them. But if you cannot swallow the capsule try with the applesauce. But never chew the pellets in the applesauce! Bu before taking nexium, confirm whether you have ever had any type of liver disease, for which you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring.

Again if you are pregnant have a talk with the doctor before taking it. Since it is not known whether Nexium passes into breast milk, talk with the doctor before you breast feed your baby. Keep it in mind, that serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions have been reported in patients on penicillin therapy. These do occur if you do have any such history of penicillin hypersensitivity and/or a history of sensitivity to multiple allergens. So, it is significant to consider this diagnosis in patients who present with diarrhea subsequent to the administration of antibacterial agents.

  Besides if you ever have nexium side effects like headache, constipation, cough, or diarrhea, throat pain, chest pain, severe stomach pain, contact the doctor immediately. There are also medicines that may interact with nexium. So talk to the doctor of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking, with no further delay.
