Norvasc, as a medicine is categorized in a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It is used in general to relax the blood vessels, while making it easier for the heart to pump and reducing its workload. Again it is used in the treatment of hypertension and also angina. Both norvasc pills and norvasc tablets are available in the market and are to be taken once a day. Since it can discomfit stomach, it is advised to take this medicine with milk or food. With this if your doctor prescribes a low-salt or low-sodium diet, follow these directions carefully. Even if you miss the dose take it as soon as you remember. If it is the time for the next dose skip the missed one but never break the dose schedule indulging into double dose. But while talking with the doctor be open and affirm if you have any liver or heart disease; sinus syndrome, aortic stenosis, heart failure, low blood pressure, or coronary artery disease. If you have any of these, you will perhaps not be allowed to take the medicine, or shall have to seek emergency medical attention. Besides, Norvasc is in the FDA pregnancy category C, with every chance of being harmful to the infant. So if you are pregnant or chances are here, talk to the doctor before use. Again, since it is unknown whether it harms breast milk, it is also advised to consult with the doctor before starting this practice. Norvasc side effects are also not rare and if you ever experience unusually fast or slow heartbeat; chest pain; severe dizziness or fainting; psychosis stop taking Norvasc at once and contact the doctor immediately. But in case of having headache; insomnia; abdominal pain; increased or difficult urination continue to have Norvasc and report to the doctor your experience. If you are over 65 years of age, you may be more likely to experience side effects from Norvasc. Your doctor may prescribe a lower dose of this medication.
