Paxil happens to be an agent in a newer class of antidepressant medication, which is known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs. It is best used to reduce depression and anxiety disorders that are caused in general by a sort of chemical imbalance in the brain. It is to be noted, that one of these chemicals is serotonin, which helps a lot in sending electrical signals from one nerve cell to another. It is available in the market in the forms of both paxil pills and paxil tablets and are to be taken orally. It is in general taken once daily and may be with or without food. However, if the dose gets missed take it as soon as you remember. But if it is the time for the next dose skip the missed dose and continue with the dosing schedule. Never attempt to take a doubled dose to compensate the missed one! Now, even if you feel well continue to take it without fail. Never stop without consulting your doctor, and remember before taking for a few weeks at a stretch its effect is not felt.

  If you have any sort of liver disease, kidney disease, seizures or epilepsy, or a manic disorder or even suicidal thoughts, be honest while informing the doctor. If this is the condition you will be debarred from taking Paxil, or there is the need of a dosage adjustment or even special monitoring during treatment. If you are pregnant or if there is any chance to be pregnant, do not take Paxil unless the doctor advises you. Remember that paxil passes into the breast milk posing a great risk for the nursing baby. Again, if there is any such positive side effect like allergic reaction, an irregular heartbeat or pulse; low blood pressure or bruising, consult the doctor at the earliest.
