What is the use of zovirax? Zovirax is used for the treatment of herpes infections of the skin, lip, and genitals; herpes zoster (shingles); and chickenpox. Though it does not heal herpes infections but effectively reduces pain and itching along with the promotion of healing. Again, Topical zovirax may diminish pain and itching if applied when the earliest symptoms first appear but it does not prevent the reappearance of sores. Conversely, oral zovirax reduces the frequency and severity of recurrent sores, though gets used by people with severe herpes infections due to possible adverse effects. Never fail to start the treatment with zovirax topical after the first appearance of symptoms, but at the earliest. Always be in close touch with your doctor and use this medication according to his prescription. For instance, zovirax topical is usually applied every 3 hours, six times a day for seven days. But if you miss one dose apply it as soon as you remember. But if it is near the time of the next dose skip the missed one but do not break the dosing schedule. Never take a double dose. Again before using zovirax topical, honestly tell your doctor if you are suffering from any medical condition or if you use any other medication. Again, if you are pregnant refrain form using it without the doctor's advice. The same is also applicable if you are breast feeding your baby. Besides zovirax side effects is also quite common, though not serious. But if ever you anticipate an allergic reaction including difficulty breathing; rash; hives; itching; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, go for medical attention. Continue to use Zovirax topical and talk to your doctor if you experience itching, stinging, burning, or a rash. Keep in concern that zovirax is most effective if it is started within 48 hours of when the rash first appears.
